I am an admirer of the late George Nakashima and this is the first piece that I have made using butterfly joints. Since I own my own woodlot, I have been air drying native Vermont lumber for years. The great ice storm of 1998 forced me to harvest timber from the lot and I kept all of the Butternut, Slippery Elm (red Elm),  Bitternut Hickory and other assorted northern hardwoods.  The lumber was flitch cut including crotch and other crazywood.  These benches were fabricated from a Bitternut Hickory bole that I had initially put in the burn pile.   I'm glad that it didn't make it to the stove.

I make it a rule to scan the firewood pile before bucking it up. It would be a pleasure to have you look over my stash of crazy wood. With my own supply of lumber, I specialize in domestic woods. The only exception is a small supply of ebony which I use for pulls, etc.

I was born in WA, near Spokane and get out there about twice a year.

Real nice job. Beautiful little bench. Mr Nakashima would be proud of you. Thanks for sharing. Mike
