Gavel and Travel Case

This is my first project ever on a lathe. This is a hand-turned gavel for a college’s student government association parliamentarian. The gavel and sounding block are made of Mahogany, and the piece measures approximately 13” in length and about 3 ½” in width at the largest point. The piece was finished with Waterlox and a clear protective coat while still on the lathe.
