I wanted to design and build something really distinctive and use it as a showcase piece for my business. I wanted something small packed with many different woodworking techniques. The inspiration for this piece is a Shaker candle stand.

It is made out of flame birch and black walnut. The top is diamond matched walnut burl veneer glued to a baltic birch substrate with light coloured solid walnut banding around the perimeter. The leg assembly is finished with polymerized tung oil. The top is finished with shellac that was rubbed with Micro-Mesh discs up to 12000 grit.

14” deep x 14” wide x 25 1/2” high.

Woodworking techniques featured in this piece:

- Diamond matched veneering
- Through mortise and tenons
- Double tapered legs
- Banding
- Bent laminated stretcher assembly
- Mortise and tenon joints between stretcher and legs and between apron pieces and center hub.
