Cocobolo frame supports clock face and Hermle quartz movement with pendulum and selectable Westminster chimes or Ave Maria melodies.
Clock face inspired by Cutting Multi-Pointed Stars by John Sedgwick, Canadian Marquetry, Dec. 1997. 24-point star design was made with Birdseye Maple and Fiddleback Sapele and embedded in a Walnut Burl veneer backing.

This is a Christmas present for my wife this year -- she has always been in love with clocks having Westminster chimes.  The clock face was created from contrasting veneers along the design concept in the article by John Sedgwick -- see also the Marquetry Society of Canada website at http://www.marquetrysociety.ca.  The 24-point star was cut into a background veneer of burl walnut and then applied to one face of a 1/4" sheet of MDF with a quilted maple veneer for the other side to balance the stresses.  The cocobolo frame was rabbeted to accept the clock face, and cocobolo blocks were added to provide a mounting mechanism for the clock on a wall.  The quartz movement is from the German manufacturer Hermle.
