This artistic and unconventional idea for your home will blow the brains out of your guests, especially when you mention you made it.

The making is relatively easy, because just like working with pallets, re-using wooden structures like crates involves mainly re-arranging them in a shape of your choice. What now?

Find four identical, stable wooden crates, made of slats with a minimum thickness of 5 mm. Arrange them in the shape of a square with open outwards as shown in the pictures and screw them together. For the base you can use plywood and add four wheels. This will give greater stability to your table and will help you move it around. It will make your coffee table extremely flexible and easy to relocate if you are always on the move. My husband for example, often moves furniture around in order to add diversity. Anyway,  after you are done with the base and attaching the crates to one another, paint and varnish. You could use a natural colour, or a colour that suits your living room and decor best - I went along with a more natural colour.

In order to decorate the middle part you can cut a piece of wood, the size of the hole to mount inside a few inches below the top. Decorated with stones , dried flowers and leaves, coins or corks. Optionally, you can cover your table with glass, but I prefer a pot of flowers. However, if the thickness of the wooden crates does not provide sufficient stability, I would advise you to put a glass top, otherwise the crates may deform under more pressure.

Beside all the benefits of this table - the fact that you made it yourself, its cheap, looks good and is useful, I love the most the additional storage space it provides. You can use the space to put your books, magazines, a basket with gadgets and stuff you use.
