WoodRiver’s deluxe marking gauge is a good-quality disk-cutting gauge, but lacking the O-ring of the Veritas models, it was a tad fussier to set precisely. Also, the etched markings on the shaft were 1/32 in. off the actual distance between cutter and fence.
This saw is nearly identical to the TSC 55 REB, with two main upgrades. The first is a thinner blade that cuts quicker and extends battery life up to 40%, according to Festool. The second is the headline-grabber: an anti-kickback device that replaces the riving knife. The KEB is compatible with older Festool tracks and batteries. You can buy just the bare tool, the tool with the batteries, or the tool with the batteries and a 55-in. track.
The Ridgid R4251 was a pleasant surprise. It uses two articulating arms to let it sit against a wall. The mechanism had me skeptical, but it performed excellently. The controls are conveniently placed and easy to use. The bevel and tilt locks for working off of the stops were my favorite of the field. Its LED results in a nice, accurate shadow.
