We needed a kitchen table slightly narrower than standard, to fit in a breakfast nook.  The madrone is from a tree I cut down more than 25 years ago, and air dried.  The top is quartersawn oak salvaged from a library table dug out of fire debris about 30 years ago (I never got around to my original plan to refinish it). The top and base are joined by sliding tapered dovetails made of ipé (strong and stiff, to keep the table flat, yet allow expansion/contraction).  All oak and madrone was ammonia-fumed for color.  Polyurethane sprayed finish.
