This chest was custom made to match the theme in a treasured painting done by the client's mother. The four cherry-wood trapezoid frames are corner mitered. Curly maple panels, solid and book-matched veneer, are used at the ends and in the miter-framed inset doors. The pagoda and lattice railing depicted in the painting were the inspiration for the design elements. I decided to create interest in the fret work by making the two ends different and repeating the pattern in the handle which is also a trapezoid. CNC fret work was subbed out. I found some gorgeous figured cherry for the top. The inside is finished with a gel varnish and the outside with several coats of oil finish that's keeping this linen chest aglow.
