Antique Cypress Trestle Table
comments (2) June 18th, 2010 in Reader's Gallery
I made this table for a breakfast table in 2009 from Cypress & Poplar. The cypress was recovered by a friend from an old Catholic Church that tragically burned in the '70's. He was a deacon at the church, and had it laying behind his house since then thinking he would make something with it one day. A lot of the wood was in pretty bad shape, but I had just enough usuable material.
The Top is finished with Oil & Wax. This was my 1st Table, and my 1st time using Milk Paint. General Finishes (Bayberry Green, Brick Red & Lamp Black) Paint and their Top Coat. Awesome Stuff!!! Easy to apply and very happy with the result.
The photos don't really do it justice. Just finished reading the FWW article on photographing your work. Can't wait to try out what I've learned!

For the bottom stretcher(not pictured), I used a double mortise & tenon on end. Again, the tenon extended through the post and foot, locking everything into place.
