Since I am completely addicted to box making I always have a lot of small scraps laying around...actually I have a rolling bins worth!  I will take these scraps and make small boxes to study shapes, wood contrast and try different techniques. The "Buddha" box spawned from one of those experiments.  There are internal splines that aid in the attachment of the legs. The legs are also tapered thickness wise...a little hard to see in the picture though.  The "handle" is doweled into the lid.

The lid is made from Bubinga, curly maple, gaboon ebony and zebra wood. The body is made from curly maple, bocote, paduak and bolivian rosewood.

In the end the shape reminded me of a fat, jolly Buddha with his arms raised in the air…thus the name.  "Buddha" is  roughly 4.5" x 3.5" x 5.5".
