This origami inspired table is made of spalted Maple & ebonized Ash. The origami butterflies are made of Rosewood & Ebony. The large butterfly has a 3/4" x 32" steel rod running through it to stabilize the crotch area. The folded edge of the top conceals  the entry hole for the steel rod. It's hard to see in the photos but all end grain edges are tapered and beveled to simulate folds. The ebonized base pieces are tapered in thickness, beveled and splayed. They are set into the top via m&t joinery. The base was ebonized via the Brian Boggs method, finish is an oil/varnish.
