My first woodworking project, the Shaker Chess Table. Made from Brazilian Mahogany and Maple. All tenon, mortise and dovetails joints were hand cut and chiseled out. No stain was used, only clear coats of varnish to bring out the natural beauty of these woods. Drawers on either side accommodate the chess pieces. The height of the table is 23" so the player's can have a full birds eye view of the playing field. The table top measures 28" x 23", with 2" x 2" alternating Mahogany and Maple chess squares.

woodenhorse woodenhorse writes: Agreeing with the first post the chess pieces are set on the wrong squares. The light colored square should be in the lower right corner. When set up correctly, this table looks like it would allow ample room for a chess clock and plenty of leg room for the players. Looks great and it definitely inspires me to build one. I like that the drawers would then open on the sides rather than toward the player. I might add an inlay on mine to give separation between the playing field and the boarder. Overall a very nice job.
