Back in the mid-seventies, when Fine Woodworking magazine first came on the scene, the nation was caught in the midst of a resurgence of "back-to-the-land" and "do-it-yourself" tenacity. It was the perfect environment for Taunton's first publication. A great deal has changed since those early days. We made it through the '80's and the '90's, but by the time 2000 rolled around, that DIY woodworker movement was waning.

Over the course of the last few years however, we've seen a renewed interest in hand-tool only woodworking. Folks tired of living sterile, virtual lives largely governed by their Macs or PC's have turned back to working with their hands, and woodworker Tom Fidgen is no different. His new book, The Unplugged Woodshop, offers 240 pages and 498 luscious photographs documenting the construction of a variety of hand tool-only projects for the home and workshop. Be sure to catch his video trailer for a sneak preview.

I am afraid that if you purchased that book, this one might just be a rehash of the first book, just with different projects. If you did not get the first book, then I would recommend getting this one, as the projects seem to be better explained.
