My small garage shop
Here is a few pictures of my little garage shop. The walls are insulated with 3 inch blue styrofoam and covered with plywood. Plywood and insulation are salvaged from the PMC west hospital project in southern California. The insulation was scrap from the roofing and the the plywood on the walls, as well as the tool carts, were reclaimed crates for the cabinet works in the new hospital. All material was headed for the landfill. I also have several sheets of 3/4 birch plywood from reclaimed crates saved from the trash that will soon be shop cabinets. My table saw is a Bosch contractor saw on a gravity rise stand. The miter saw is a Dewalt 12 inch slide on a Rigid cart. Both fold up out of the way against one wall next to a Grizzly GO55X 14 inch bandsaw. All my bench top tools are mounted on roller cabinets stored out of the way and rolled out as needed. The Delta 12 inch Lathe is mounted on a shop made roller stand against the other wall. The bench is made of two layers of 3/4 plywood and 2×6 lumber with 4×4 lumber for the feet. The router table is laminated MDF that goes against the wall when not in use. All the bench top tools and the lathe are collected off Craigslist; none exceding 100 bucks including the Delta Mortiser along with the cabinet. My wife wanted some nice furniture for the house. The only problem was the Walnut bed she wanted was $5000 alone. So we figured the money would be better spent on a shop so we could build our own cheaper than paying for custom furniture or buying pressboard at the furniture store.

nicely done. i was interested in your setup for the dust extactor. it very much looks like mine, a 1 hp 500 cfm Clarke. it looks like you did a two stage conversion on it. i have not yet hooked up the network for the hoses and was wondering if you could give me some tips on how not to loose sucion over distances and multiple hoses.
thanks,

My dust collector is a 2HP Central machine from Harbor Freight. Got it for a hundred bucks on craigslist. I got the idea for the two stage set up from some of the other guys on another site blog. This set up works great for keeping the larger stuff out of the impeller and filter. I use a single expandable hose set up with Dust Right fittings that I just plug in to whatever machine I am running. The bags on this machine are only 30 micron so I just roll the machine outside while its running. I have a Wynne Nano on order to upgrade the filter system. I will post pics when I get it finished. This set up has more than enough power for any two machines in my shop. I also added a Dust Right tool port fitting to a 3 inch pvc pipe that works great as a floor sweep for cleaning up shavings on the floor after hand planing and things like that.
Look's good. You make good use of space. I am just getting my shop set up, may use some of your ideas.
Thanks!
I like the way you recycle materials. I worked in industrial maintenance for 48 years, and have done very much like you have. Good work, congradulations,
