Hi folks,
I’m looking for prices in the WV area for cost of rough cut air dried cherry and black walnut. My Dad has a lead on some for $1.50 a board foot. Is this a good price? He would have to travel several hours to get it, so this factors in. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Jon

It all depends on the grade of the lumber and what you want it's end use to be. At $1.50 I would tend to believe that is is probably log run material. You will probably get some good and some bad. If you are looking for select grade furniture wood, you may need to ask more specific questions about the grade of the material. Woodworkers just looking for craft wood would probably be very pleased with log run at that price. Of course there is always the possiblity that it is wonderful stuff and a great deal, unfortunately you may have to drive a while to find out for sure.

How can you go wrong at $1.50 a foot ?
Even #2 common cherry and walnut is more than that ! Unless they are trying to sell you cord wood.C.
Just because its lower grade wood doesnt mean it isnt pretty. That cost might be green lumber.
Like another poster said, you cant go wrong with $1.50bdft stack and sticker and let it dry. You might get some non useable stuff for pieces, but that doesnt mean you cant use it for jigs, kindling, secondary wood etc
