I am building the workbench with the half blind dove tail aprons and two vises. Cut the tails fine by hand but am pretty challenged cutting the pins in such thick wood. Do you have any hints that would make is easier to cut the pin sockets??
I have read most of the material on the site re dove tails but most of the stuff is for thinner wood. any insight would be appreciated….
thanks

The best approach is to use a router or a drill press to remove as much wood as possible, plus you can cut at least a portion of the lines with a small saw held at an angle. After that, the final chopping and shaping will still be chisel work. With a larger chisel, and a larger mallet to drive it, the work will go smoothly. It some ways it is almost easier to work on this scale rather than trying to make small tight dovetails.
I would suggest taking an hour or two off to practice on a scrap board before working on the actual part.
