charnwood,
This does not answer your question but I bought the 6" Starrets combo after looking at the 4" double heads. The key difference being the level on the 6"...comes in handy making sure the stock is level in the vise before cutting dovetails, etc.
I was looking at one and it looked OK. I tend to be very biased in favor of Starrett products though and you very seldom hear of anybody saying the Starrett product is almost as good as brand X. I also have an American Products Engineering 4" double square and it is very nice, again almost as nice as a Starrett. Anyway if your feeling lucky you might try e-bay there are a lot of starrett squares there. Good luck Troy
I bought it an it's nice. I lost my Starrett and replaced it with this one. Can't tell any difference.
Looks like DonC gave you the answer you are looking for.
I wanted to add my $.2. I regularly watch auctions of Starrett squares on eBay, and the Starrett 4" double squares both new and used regularly go for $34 or less, especially if they are used and in good shape. I've bought two used Starrett squares off of eBay, and both were bargains and spot on accurate. If you want a Starrett, you can get one for the same money as a Woodcraft. Tom
Thank you for your responses .I purchased the Woodcraft double square on my holiday trip to Orlando last week. The reason I purchased the Woodcraft model was Woodcraft did not have the Starrett product in stock and there was insufficient time to ship the Starrett square to my hotel
The distance from my hotel at Disney World to Woodcraft Cassellberry Orlando was 30 miles
I was very disappointed with the limited range of tools available in store at Woodcraft
If any other Woodworkers are visiting the USA. I would suggest they explore having products shipped to tier hotel on the day they arrive
I had a number of products shipped from Whiteside and I was very pleased with the service and the cost of shipping
If you request next day delivery and pay by credit card the cost was $20

Charnwood,
I work in the Woodcraft store in Springfield, Virginia. If anyone ever has any questions about availability of an item, I'd be happy to check it out for them. Please note that I am a part time employee, and get noting personally out of doing this, except for helping a fellow woodworker. Also, having worked there for a while, I have checked out many of the tools, and would be happy to give personal opinions if it helps them out.
