Could someone tell me what the term ( BTR ) in a wood selection mean? I was looking at some lumber for a project I’m interested in building using some Cyprus and it was marked Sel & BTR – 1.75/bd’.
I don’t now what grade BTR is.
Thanks in advance Lou

Lou, the "BTR" stands for BETTER. It means that the lumber grades out as SELECT and may contain some stock that would grade even higher. At least in domestic hardwoods, the higher grade is FAS, which stands for FIRSTS AND SECONDS. To qualify as FAS, the board must meet virtually clear standards on its worst face, while in determining the SELECT grade, the board is judged on the merits of its best face.
As for the amount of "Better" you are likely to run across in a shipment of SEL & BTR lumber...when you discover some of it, it qualifies as a news worthy enough find that you might want to notify your local TV station.

Jon,
Thanks for the laugh. I needed an uplift considering all of the war stuff.
