I have a chest and the edge of the lid is cracked but not detached. I want to inject glue into the crack, but where can I buy a syringe with a coarse needle?

I get them at my local pharmacy. They have several gauges for use by diabetics (and I suppose others). They run me 25 cents each.
You do not need a prescription for these, at least in my state. I asked my son-in-law who is a physician and he said the thought is they would rather people have clean syringes than risk having to use dirty ones.

Hello
You can try to work glue into the crack with pressure from the tip of your finger.
May not need the syringe for this job.

Been there, blobbed that. :(Janet
can you post a photo of the damage ?

If you need to put it in under pressure this one will work

If you just need a small spout this one

Janet,
Try a farm supply store, or ask a veterinarian. Syringes for large animals are larger, and have large needles, that are more appropriate for glue injecting.

I have a "needle" (not sharp) from one of those kits for refilling printer cartridges, but it needs a syringe with a threaded tip. The local pharmacy said I can't buy a syringe without a prescription. They said it was NJ law, and to try a New York pharmacy. Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't know of any woodworking stores in northern NJ, I'll just order one by mail.Janet
If the crack propagates thru the board/area, a better way to get glue into the joint is with suction. Use your shop vac on the back side of the crack and lay beads of glue along the crack until it starts to appear on the vacuum side. This method leaves a nice even coating of glue across the entire depth of the cracked area.
The post by Julmar is correct. I have used a shop vac several times to pull glue down into the crack. Tape the top edges next to the crack with a wide masking tape. Use the shop vac under the crack while dribbling the glue in the top of the crack. When you see excess glue under the board, turn off vaccumn and clamp. If the chest is stained then hot hide glue is best since it takes a stain. If painted, any carpenters glue, white or yellow will do.If you can close the crack tightly with clamps before glueing then carpenters glue will work.
In my experience it is not easy to completely pull the crack tight because of broken fibers that can't be removed without completely seperating the cracked board. But the hide glue takes care of it. Possibly the liquid hide glue that comes in a bottle might work, I have only used hot hide glue myself.

If you are still looking for a syringe, Rockler carries a set of two with different tips:

I've also read that if you can get to both sides and the crack goes all the way through, put the glue on the top and vacuum from the bottom. I've never tried it but...........
ASK
large needle and syringe? I use the stuff from the large animal vet that I play tennis with. He gave me a box. If you can not find one in your local area, I think I can send along a couple.

It's messy, but putting glue on the crack and hitting it with a blast of air from the compressor will also force glue into the crack. It's best if you can spread the crack at least a little and then clamp and clean up. I've used this on gunstock cracks in the distant past.

The problem with using suction (shop vac) or compressed air to drive glue into a crack is that it's uncontrollable. I've successfully used a feather to drag glue into cracks. And sometimes my breath to move it the last little bit.
