It looks like a grinder with a saw blade on it.
I've never seen anything like that.
I sent this off to several career cabinet makers, the were unknowing as well.ThanksRon
I sent an email to Len. If anyone knows, he will ... famous last words.....
I thought everyone had one of these.
After I try to make a Windsor chair, I use the Acme Windsor Chair Saw to cut it into little pieces, thus making it easier to hide the evidence. It also works on other furniture as well. :-D
Very clever, Dave, keeps your reputation solid, eh?
Len wrote back, suggested it might be custom-made, used to cut spindles to length. "Just a guess" he said. Hey! that's what we're doing! LOL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I'm always guessing. I just rarely present it that way. LOL.Len

I e-mailed the poster a few questions and this is his response.Hi, I posted a link to your saw and asked if anybody had any idea what it was. I goggled it and found nothing. The population of Fine Woodworking magazine's web sight awaits a person who can say for sure what this saw really does?Is it home made?Would you please be so kind as to offer a detailed description of the saw? Thanks
Ron ChristensenHis response,Yes it is homemade. It just a regular 7 1/4 " saw blade hooked up to a 3450 rpm motor. I already had a guy come down here from a local vocational school ready to buy it but then we found out it was 3 phase and he could not use it.Again, its for building Windsor chairs which I don't do. If you need it explained then you probably don't need it. Its use is highly specialized and the only knowledgeable people on this tool would be Windsor chair builders
Thanks
kenSo there you have it, a less than satisfactory answer as to the function it performs on apparently just Windsor chairs. Thanks to all.
Ron
I emailed the seller and received the following response:
Some of the turned parts of a Windsor chair or possibly bent parts have toget the ends cut a certain way. U use 2 hands to hold the wood as you bringit to the moving blade. Cant do that with a miter saw and an irregularpiece.
I think I have one of these already. I call it a backsaw.
Bill
or a band saw?
TT
I think we accent the "Wind" in Windsor in this case.

really crazy but can you free hand cut a round tenon on this. to bad we can see the business side of the blade where the rest meets.
all in all looks like a great way to make tooth picks.....
