Hey Gary,
I’m finishing up the Arts and Crafts quartersawn white oak bookcase that you posted an article on a while ago. (Its the one in your fww gallery)
If I used quarersawn white oak wedges and had the tangential direction of the wedge (which I was going to glue in place) facing out towards the end grain of the tenon…. would expansion and contraction over time of the wedge cause any problems or is it negligible? (i’m in the pacific nw)
thanks,
shawn

Hey Shawn,
I find that wedges left unglued need tapping in every year or so. That being said, I think the size of the wedge is fairly small so that movement over the width of the wedge should also be small. Glued in place I think the wedge should hold fine. Have fun. It's a nice bookcase isn't it? I still have to finish the second one I started. Best, Gary
