I bought some cherry from a new lumberyard a few days ago and when I unloaded it, I found a piece of wood that definitely was not cherry. It has a waxy feel to it, even after it is planed down. I’m attaching a picture. The only wood I know that has a waxy texture is cocobolo, but this doesn’t look like it. Any thoughts?

Looks like Teak.

I thought it looked like teak as well, but I don't think teak has a waxy feel to it.

Oh yes, teak is very waxy.
At least all the pieces I've ever worked with.
Then again, for all I know there are some varieties of teak that are less so.
That must be it. Thanks for your help, Samson.

That does look like Teak as some have said-but it is easy to confirm by smell- Teak has a most distinctive smell.....
It also looks like Afzelia aka Doussie. Does it darken when exposed to light? Afzelia does feel waxy, but Teak does not.
More pictures?
Philip,
I did not notice any particular smell to the wood. It did not darken when exposed to direct sunlight for a couple or hours.
