I have wanted a sprayer to apply finish to my projects for quite awhile. I was going to get a HVLP sprayer but my wife went out and bought me a Wagner Power painter. ( its her hint that the garage needs painting!) Now this thing has three power settings and you can turn the volume of material sprayed right down to a teardrop ………almost. I was wondering how this rig would do spraying on water based poly or some other finishes. Anyone ever tried it?

I don't know about the Power Painter, but I bought an inexpensive Wagner HVLP spray unit last year, reconditioned, and it has worked well. It's not for big projects, but one of the guys who posted over at WWA has been using one for small furniture, up to and including chest of drawers.
No doubt, it isn't as versatile and perfect as the realllllly nice units, but at $70 it's a buy for finishing smaller items. Here's a link at Gleem Paint, which is where I got mine:
