I am interested in using this top for a router table supporting a Ryobi 3hp plunge route. Has anyone had experience with this top? Have you found it to be flat and stable? This top has a unique router holding mechanism, does it really work? Any input would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance, Bill

I’ve been using one for 3 years. I have set it in my table saw extension. I use a shop made fence with a vacuum port and zero clearance inserts. The shop made router fence fits over the top of the saw fence. The router mounting system works very well and has never causes a problem. I’ve got the big 3 1/4 HP Porter Cable 7518 mounted in it right now. Only problem is that it does not raise or lower the router like the new Bench Dog system does.
I bought the Lee Valley/Veritas table because it is thin, strong and the ease of use of the clamps. I use a Porter Cable 690 router in it for small shaping jobs - I have a shaper so I don't need a router table as much. I really like the table and it does stay flat. Most tables are thick are require a separate base plate on the router - too much set-up time for me. With the Veritas, I can slip the router in and be ready to go in seconds. And I have almost full use of the router bit as it protrudes through the table - shaping mouldings requires as much height as I can get out of the router. I also have the Veritas fence with the micro-adjuster - works great particularly with sliding dovetails that I make for table tops. For the price point and quality I wouldn't consider any other table (at least for my applications).
I would like to thank everyone for the information. I recieved my Veritas top, installed it, and am very pleased with the item. Thanks again for all your input. Bill
Funny you should ask. I have the same table/insert and router. I found the table/insert flexed when used. Not a lot, but enough to distort to cuts. I ended up switching to a BORG table. Very heavy guage cast iron and half the price of a shaper. I may still buy a shaper. Incidentally, the clamping system works great, its the guage of the steel that is the problem.
