I am on the market for a vacuum press and was wondering if anyone had any recomendations. One of my concerns with the continous pumps is the noise level. Mostly I can work in the evenings in my garage shop and I am worried that long glue ups for veneered panels will be too noisy. What are the different pump options and what are your feelings about them. Thanks in advance for the help.

By all means talk to Vacupress. They are the long-term experts and are the most knowledgeable around. They can answer your questions and supply you with almost anything you will need.
We use a dedicated pump and a polyurethane bag. For most things it takes about 2-1/2 minutes to draw down, then runs for about 15 seconds every 10 minutes or so.

Go to johnwoodworker.com for EVERYTHING you need to know
Chri7s and Stapes,
Not trying to be a know-it-all, but I think the website stapes is referring to is joewoodworker.com, not johnwoodworker. But he is right, that guy knows his stuff. He sells vacuum pumps and kits to make your own pump that will cycle on and off.
Good luck,
Lee
thanks all for the help. I think I have it figured out and can't wait to get to work.

Joewoodworker.com and build your own. He sells everything you need and offers great support. Spend the extra $5 on the valves and $20 or so for the foot switch and add the vac clamp. You will have a setup that serves two purposes. I find a new use for my vac 2-3 times each year.
Mine is from Woodcraft. It runs constantly (no cycling) but is very quiet. Because I use epoxy adhesive, it often runs all night. When the pump is sitting on a scrap of carpet, I can't hear it in the next room.
