I’m designing a TV Cabinet for a customer who wants a glass shelf in it. The attached drawing shows the size and shape of the shelf but I’m not convinced that this is a good idea.
I’m thinking that 1/2″ tempered safety glass might be ok as long as it isn’t loaded too heavily. The upper part of the cabinet will have interior lighting and the customer wants the light to shine thru the shelf. Has anyone done something like this? How did it work for you?
Thanks

Hey Dave,
I haven't built a glass shelf for an entertainment center, but the Sagulator http://www.woodbin.com/calcs/sagulator.htm indicates very little deflection with an 80 pound load when supported only from the ends. It should work fine. Even with 3/8" glass. Talk to the glass supplier.
Thanks, Bob -
I hadn't seen that site before and it's going into the "Favorites" folder as of now. - lol
