I am having trouble finding good tables slides. The wood dovetail slides are sloppy to allow for movement in the wood and hence sag in the middle and have a sloppy feel.
Does anyone have any experience with a really good metal slide?

Check out Lee Valley. I have used their wooden slides and they worked satisfactorily.
There is an article in Fine Woodworking by Jeff Miller on Extension Tables. He suggests that you use heavy duty drawer slides encased in wood. It gives you the advantage of metal slides with the look of wood. He likes this method better than either wood or metal slides. There are 500# slides available from several sources. Our local wood wholesaler has Hetich slides which are about half the price of some other premium slides. Acme also makes a metal slide with a 500# rating that is a lot less expensive. If you call them or e-mail them they will give you the name of a retailer so you avoid the minimum charge. I haven't tried either of these as yet. However, Jeff Miller's book on chair making is the best how to book I have ever read so I believe what he says. Domer
