Does anyone know how to true up an out of round Tormek grinding wheel ? It’s out by about 1/16″. I don’t know if this is within specs but I can’t help but think it’s too much. I can feel the tool rising and falling on every revolution. I’ve tried holding the dressing stone on the tool rest so it just hits the high area but progress is way too slow for my patience level (I think it would take an hour or more).

My Tormek was out of round a few weeks ago. The diamond dresser does the trick. It took me about 15 minutes to true it up.
The diamond dresser does the trick..
Yes.. However, the new style one from Tormex is MUCH better/easier to use. It is worth the price to keep your stone true.

You're right, the new

You're right, the new style is vastly better.

plus 1 on that. You can buy it for somewhat cheaper without the carbide/diamond tip, if you already have the old one to transfer the tip from.

So tell me about this new style. Is this refering to the diamond tip or the grinder. I know they have changed the grinder since I got mine which was about the time they invented stone so is fairly old.
It is the diamond tip mounting hardware.

The picture on the left is the OLD. The right picture the new style.
The old dresser was hard to control and I had to make a metal mount/guide to hold alignment to the stone as the diamond worked across the width. My rig is NOT as clean at the new Tormek design.

I would not tolerate any "out of round" that I could detect. Those Stones may become out of round at any time in their use. Do you have a diamond dresser? It shouldn't take more than a minute or two to dress it back to round, but you will need a diamond tip to dress it. That stone was never intended for trueing up the wheel.
A dressing tool held freehand, as you've discovered, will just follow the shape of the wheel and not solve the problem.
You need to get the Tormek dressing tool which is held rigidly on the machine's tool post as it is fed across the wheel. You could probably create a similar tool using one of the Tormek's other blade holding tools and an ordinary single point diamond wheel dressing tool.
