The use of contrasting woods in contemporary work is most often over-done when used. I'd advise you to use contrasting woods sparingly and to think seriously about it when you do use them. Delicate inlays are one thing but most of what I see looks amateurish if not garish.
Is it okay since I am an amateur? J/K - It's a look I've always liked when executed correctly - I continue to plan to do this and always chicken out right before cutting boards. Someday I will make a box out of walnut and bloodwood!
nice combination like a red and black color

Sir.. I disagree but do understand your point.
I have made many works of several different woods. I tend to use what I have left over for the next project. I give my work away so no money issues!
I do however, try, to keep the contrasting wood for featured trim and such. I for one love to use Purpleheart often and also birdseye maple if I can afford/have any of it left over. I also love the look of Jatoba and Purpleheart used together. I am not into the color of purple as such, but into the contrast of the colors. Come to think of it.. I do not like the color of brown in wood that much...
Look at all that very old treasured French furniture with all that gold and silver? on it...
Anyway, you do have a good point to ponder upon...
i will take that in to consideration now im starting to think about rosewood and some other wood im not sure of yet. i have some planes and they have rose wood handles and i just love the color
