Well, they sent me another survey saying they were sorry they had so much response to the first and so I began to take the second survey. After entering my email twice I got the Taunton Press Home Page. Golly, we are lucky to have the Knots Forum up and running.

The EXACT same thing happened to me - got the "We're Sorry" email message, I clicked on the link... and got the Taunton Press Home Page.
Hmm, same here.
Hi Steve,
How's politics?
Tool survey was so ...bogus. I have some tools that I've used once, ten years ago, they did the job, so I rate them excellent, but they are a pc. of crap. ( Can I say that on the internet?),
After I took the survey, I e-mailed Taunton to express my displeasure, though I have not recieved a reply of substance.
I'm supposed to be working... but am easily distracted.
Bron
Hey Bron,
Eh, same old same old over in the Cafe, altough sometimes it feels like you're doing manual labor over there. They ought to rename it something like Capital Hill, or Parliment or something like that.
You know, I thought I had a pretty well outfitted shop, then I think only three of the tools I own were options. Wonder what their point is? Heck I've only been buying tools for three years, so most of them are even reletively new. Take care,
Steve
This sounds like it might be a Pop-up problem. I got the survey, and after I submitted it, I noticed there was a Taunton Home Page beneath it. If you have any kind of pop-up killer on, try turning it off.

You're probably right, but it's too much trouble. They need to redesign the thing to work with pop up killers since a lot of people use them.
Your right forestgirl, I got a note from the site manager and he said you have to turn off the pop up blocking stuff to get the survey. Seems like a lot of trouble to accomodate this survey!
It might depend on which anti-pop-up tool you use. I'm covered by Earthlink's, which didn't cause a problem, and I also have Pop-up Killer. To test that one, I got it up and running and went back to the survey using a different email address. Got it just fine.
I don't have a big problem with the pop-up glitch, but I do think the survey was a waste of time. If they base an entire issue on the results from that survey, I'm not going to put any stock into it. It only included the newest Delta planer, which is so new that its owners are probably outnumbered 100:1 or more by people (like me) who own the 12-1/2" single-speed model.
As mentioned earlier, it doesn't ask anything about how much the respondent has used the machine (the "how long owned" doesn't really address that). Nothing on contractor's saws, like we all have enough money to buy a cabinet saw. The selection of tools for the survey was very narrow as to the type of tools selected and the individual models included.
Just looking at the survey from our end, it doesn't look to me like they're going to get any kind of statistically valid results from it. It's not that I don't appreciate them proposing a project like this (tool issue based on real-user experiences), but the reality of it ain't lookin' good.

Thanks, forestgirl; I have just deleted the survey I was holding on to take. Too bad the survey is so constructed. Perhaps it is an attempt to push their advertisers new products which I see a tendency to do in FWW articles.
Oooohhhh, now I'm in trouble. forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
