Hi, I’m building a Cherry media center and am trying to avoid the ridiculously high price of Cherry ply. What plywood can I use to closest match Cherry and can I just use one stain. Thanks SK

If you really want the look of cherry...
Trying to recreate the look of cherry with "just one stain" is virtually impossible.
I've finished birch plywood that was a close match in depth and color but it took a few layers of dye and a glaze to do so. I've also finished poplar to imitate cherry.
It does take practice. If your finishing skills are not quite there yet, and you really want the look of cherry, you're better off using the real thing.
