I am building a Stickley Sideboard. The case is made of walnut and the web is to be made from popular.
It will have two drawers 23″ wide by 18″ deep and a little over 7″ tall and one drawer 46″ wide with the same depth and height.
I had planned on making the fronts out of walnut and the sides and backs out of popular.
My question is whether the popular sides would stand up to side hung slides?
My other thought would be to use under hung metal slides.
What is your opinion?
Thanks,
Domer

Hi,
Sure the poplar would work for side hung drawers, but I wouldn't do it. Just a little too soft I think for that size drawer. Over time, I think wear issues would come into play. Maple on the other hand would be just fine. Good luck. Of course the metal glides work just fine. Gary
