I have been agonizing about a jointer upgrade and went to my local Steel City dealer to actually look at the SC offering. I was told they were no longer a Steel City dealer because of the problems they have had with the company and products. They said SC had been bought by a foreign owner and the new owner cleaned house and messed up the company in the process. One of the things they did was fire the factory rep that they had worked with for years. They also talked about a customer with a 5hp table saw that has already gone through 2 motors and finally said “get that saw out of here”. The saw is now sitting at the local dealer and they have been waiting months for SC to send them a motor. Since I was weighing the SC jointer against a Grizzly or Shop Fox jointer that costs about 40% less, all this did was make my decision easier.

I am wondering if anyone has had recent experience with SC, pro or con? I found a thread from back in June talking about SC, bankruptcy, etc. But I didn’t see any mention of new owner or significant reorganization.
