I’ve got a small upholstery project coming up and I’m going to use this as an excuse to pick up a stapler. I’ve seen a 22-gauge stapler that Porter-Cable (US58) has, but is 22-gauge so small that I could only use it for upholstery? Any recommendations what I should look for? Is 18-guage to large for upholstery?

Jay, I've got a Duofast electric stapler and it shoots 1/2" wide 20 ga. staples 5/16" ,3/8" and 1/2" I'm very satisfied with the gun and use it for wood as well as upholstery (also leather)
Had an ARROW and it wouldn't work nearly as well. I buy the staples directly from Duofast 5000 in a box
If you want to spend lot's of money, Google up upholstery electric staples Steinmetz

If you just have one small job, a good electric stapler will get you through. The problem with T50 staples is, even if you can manage to seat them in hardwood, they lack holding power. A pneumatic stapler that shoots 22 gauge staples will work best.
I do upholstery projects occasionally so I needed an upholstery stapler, but I didn't want to spend the money on a PC, which is a very good one. So I decided to try the Paslode upholstery stapler from Home Depot for $69.00can., and it works like a dream, I couldn't be happier, and theres a lot less swearing involved in upholstering. Thumbs Up to Paslode!
Good Luck. Walker1
