G’day! I’ve been searching on the internet for an answer for a while and haven’t really found an answer to this question no matter what combination of search words I use. I bet this has been asked before, but my experience of the search function in the Taunton forums has been less than stellar. I’m fixing to start on a bar for our “pub” (den) for which I want to order a couple of carved corbels. To match the wainscoting and other woodwork in the room I intend to use oak ply and molding stained a dark walnut color (Minwax.) I’ve been shopping for corbels for while now, and while the easiest thing to do would be to just get oak corbels, the ones I like best are almost invariably out of maple or some other wood. I would suspect because of the carving qualities. I can imagine that getting a good, crisp carving in red oak would not be all that easy. Is it at all possible to get these two woods anywhere close to the same color? I’ve never done anything quite like this before although I have made a a few cabinets for utility use and whatnot, and I’m quite looking forward to the challenge. At the same time I don’t relish mucking up about $100 worth of corbels either!

You can stain them to match colorwise, but the grain will always appear different. I'd stay in the same specie whichever you choose.
Expert since 10 am.
Can you post a few photos of what you want to do?
Without a clear idea of the plan, it is possible to get something like maple to the same tone as the oak. Like an earlier post pointed out-- the grain will be a bit different.
Found some on this site:

It is too late now but if you want corbels in a large variety of types and woods, http://www.osbornewood.com from Georgia has them.
