I have a dishwasher panel made up to match my other cabinets and I’m having trouble with the stain. The piece is a raised panel door made of maple. I have stained it and removed the stain 3 times so far, each time getting a little worse. The last time I stained it I used a wood conditioner first, the stain really looked bad after that. I reallly make sure that I sanded it down good ending with 220 grit. I would appreciate any advice, otherwise I will have a flat panel door and an angry wife. Thanks..

Tony,
There is no carte blanch answer I can give you without seeing the problem.
Often times I'll dye a piece first, seal it and then glaze it to match a color.
You may find it will be easier in the long run to make a new panel and start fresh. Once you stain a piece, no matter how well you sand it, the color remains behind and you'll find yourself trying to compensate to no avail.
The best advice I can give you is to get a finisher in your area to do it for you. It will most likely be money well spent, especially if it puts you in good graces.
