spokeshaves and 50 degree low angle blades

If your work involves regular table surfaces with an outward radius, you will be fine with a flat spokeshave and you might find it quite useful for a lot of other things. On the other hand, if you have inward curves present or other hard to reach surfaces go for the curved sole spokeshave. The 50° bevel blade will help you smooth out difficult, cross grained, or easily chipped woods. If you find alder difficult to plane with your regular 25°blade, and the 38° still isn´t working as well, then go for the 50°, just remember that it will require a lot more physical effort to work with it.

I support the comments Artex has made, with only one addition. I would only add that you want to keep your spokeshave set for a very light cut. Really good sharpness, a very light cut, and you should be very happy with your outcome.
