I just discovered the “SLIDE PLATE” on my Delta Hybrid Model 36-714. I cannot find anything about it on the Delta site. What does it do?
It slides fore and aft over a cabinet hole in front. Dust collection seems compromised. Ed

I will guess that it is for the switch, in case you want it on the right side instead of the left where the factory put it. If I guessed wrong, then I have no idea.See if it is the same exact size as the switch cabinet hole.

Yes, that's a good guess, I think. Makes sense. But, then shouldn't the hole for the switch be closed (somehow)?
Ed
I suppose if you switched the hole positions you would remove the slide plate and install on the other side.

Thanks again for your thoughts. The thing leaves a hole into the cabinet in either of its 2 possible positions (that should be filled-in withduct tape?). It amazes me that Delta does not acknowledge its use in the manual or website; just a part number only!

Not only Delta but many companies have inadequate manuals. I keep all of my manuals, some are over 40 years old. A number of them I have written in tips and instructions that should have been there. As an example of something I wrote in 40 years ago, I have a jointer with locking screws that are left threaded. Not all jointers are left threaded so I wrote this in. This was left out of the manual, but a call to the distributor verified t
I have a manual for a Grizzly Milling machine that was written in pidgeon english. I called the Grizzly tech for some information. He said that on page 14 there is a complete explanation and drawing. I turned to that page while on the phone. The page had absolutely nothing to do with the question.
He told me to download the manual on the website,it was written in plain english. I did and printed it out. All of my questions were answered in the download version.I kept the original manual for laughs.

A few days ago I received a reply from Delta-Porter-Cable tech support, as folows:
The sliding plate in the back of the saw is a opening for tilting of the saw blade. The dust collection is at the bottom of the machine, the opening does not play any part of compromising for dust collection.
I guess that explains it all!
