I have an old (c.1960s) Sears 8″ table saw which is still nicely productive. The old-style fence, however, is showing signs of wear and lacks the precision of the newer t-square fences found on the current crop of table saws. Simply adapting a contemporary 10″ saw fence to this older saw is a questionable solution. I would like to know if anyone out there has built their own T-square saw fence and if so, how they went about it and what clamping mechanisms were used? The saw table is cast iron and about 20″ x 24″, with the old two-rod sliding extension leaf for sawing large panels.

I haven't built my own, but did adapt one of the shorter Delta T-square fences to my old Delta 9" contractor's saw a couple of years ago. Doing that meant drilling a couple of new holes in the rail to match the existing holes in the saw's table, but that wasn't difficult. The decision was made easy by finding the fence on sale at Amazon, for around $160, IIRC.
Even the shorter T-square fence would have made the saw tipsy, though. So, I decided to offset the fence to the left, splitting the rip capacity.

Thanks for your info, Ralph...I will check with the local Delta dealer and see how their T-square compares with the after-market MuleCab fence that forestgirl brought to my attention. Dzhek
MuleCab fence
Demon, a number of people with the old Sears saws have fitted a Mule Cabinetmaker's fence to them and been quite pleased. They come with a 90-day no-questions-asked return policy, might be worth looking at: http://www.mulecab.com/

Many thanks, forestgirl...I checked them out and they will respond with more detailed info. Looks like this might be the best solution. Dzhek
Re: Table Saw Rip Fence
Here is something I ran across on Lumberjocks recently. It looks to be pretty good. I have an old Power Craft that my grandfather gave to my dad when I was about 7 years old and thought if I ever set it up I could make something like this for it.
