Hi to All-
For those of you who have ordered machinery from Grizzly, does the $55.00 shipping charge place the item on your doorstep? Do you as the buyer select the carrier? Once it arrives at your residence, how did you get the machine from the delivery truck to your shop? Finally, does Grizzly provide an online tracking service. Apologies if these questions have been posted once before, but I am getting ready to purchase a 14″ bandsaw and am interested to know how smoothly the delivery went. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Trushche,
The $55 is a tail gate delivery..altough they will help you get it off the truck and maybe in the shop. Grizzley chooses the carrier, I picked up my saw at the carrier warehouse. As I remember, there is some tracking...shipped date, carrier, etc.
I was worried about the delivery..it was a piece of cake
I bought the 1023 Cabinet saw. I was worried about the shipping as well.
The salesperson at Grizzly checked on what carrier delivered in my state. Gave me a tracking number and a number for the local office to check on the arrangements.
It turned out to be Viking now FEDEX. The Grizzly salesperson said that they always used a lift gate. It turned out that they didn't. It was a good thing that I called. I highly reccommend that you do that as well. They did arrange for a lift gate truck and everything went smoothly.
The driver showed up early and off loaded the saw. He rolled it right into the garage. He also stripped all the packaging off to check for damage. Gave me his cell number in case some hardware was missing. (One of the boxes was torn open.) The best delivery service I ever recieved.
One thing the driver said was Grizzly ships on cheap pallets and they (FEDEX) have to attach them to good ones.

I've bought a four tools from Grizzly this year, and as Len said, you cannot depend upon the carrier delivering the tool with lift gate. In fact, you'll get an explicit message from Grizzly that you're expected to take the tool off of the truck yourself.
In real life, Grizzly will inform you of the carrier once they've shipped your order, and a telephone call to the carrier requesting lift gate service will get the result you want. Some carriers tell you that they'll charge extra for lift gate delivery service, but so far I've been lucky and they haven't. I think that being flexible on letting them schedule the delivery to you on their lift gate-equipped trucks so that it works into their overall schedule is what results in the "no extra charge" delivery.
All of my deliveries were deposited via pallet jack into my garage for me. I had to worry about getting them from there into my basement workshop.

I've only ordered from Grizzly once, but since the freight depot is only a mile away, I arranged to pick it up there. Backed up the pickup truck to the dock, and they loaded the pallet right on. Just moved it into the shop in sections which was quite easy.

Never ordered from Grizzly but I will caution you to be prepared in case things don't work out as you envision them.
Before my table saw was delivered (I cannot remember the shipping carrier) I posted a question similar to yours and was advised most trucks had the tail lift gate and/or the driver would help off load it. Of course I felt better and that's when Murphy's Law struck. The truck did not have a lift gate and the driver refused to do anything more than move the saw to the end of the truck.
Fortunately, I had three 2"X6"X8' lying around and I put them up against the truck and I slid the saw down.
Hope you have better luck than I did.
In the Hindsight is 20/20 Department: A better prediction on lift-gates and driver assistance might have been gotten from the tool co. or the trucking co. rather than the Knotheads that frequent this site, LOL.
In the "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" vein: Is there any chance that this approach to seeking information is related to men's (generally) reluctance to ask for directions when lost??forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I agree with the last post, Be prepared for the unexpected! I live in a small town and there is only 1 small Okla. based carrier about 14 miles away. They don't have a lift gate truck, so I have always gone to the terminal to pick up any machines in a pickup or with a trailer. When there used to be a couple large carriers here in town, just a little terminal though. They did not have lift trucks and would add I think $75 for a lift truck to come deliver. A lot of the drivers will pull it to the back of the truck and that is it, the rest is up to you. If it is a 1000 lb machine or more that's a tough job. Just call the carrier and have it worked out before it is to arrive.
Good luck

Hi kk, wonder if I should take that 24 hours of silence (other than your's) as a "Yes." LOL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Sorry FG
I was confused with your post...Butttt...I was referring to the post before yours! you snuck yours in between while I was giving my 3 & 1/2 cent worth! And you beat be to the Post! But hey I ask directions, what's hard if finding some one knows, which leaves out a lot of gas station / quick shops!
KK
No prob, KK. Given your willingness to ask for directions <g> and advice to "Just call the carrier and have it worked out before it is to arrive," you're a proven genius. Know what you mean about the gas stations these days. Back in the "good ol' days" you could always get directions from the local at the gas station.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
