Any suggestions of manufacturers of Shaper Bits in Canada? I am looking for Entry/passage door sets and panel raising cutters. I found a passage set for $2600 and a raising panel set fo $1050. Hmm, maybe not. I thought these were a little too much for a hobbiest. Very nice professional tools, not for me.
Thanks all

Try Busy Bee Tools. http://busybeetools.ca/cgi-bin/homepage?&NTDESC=homepage2.htm A lot of their stuff is crap, but the bits seems ok, and most of the machines are typical end Chinese stuff.
Alternatively, buy them from the US.
I recently priced out some custom moulder knives. I figured I'd try a domestic supplier. They wanted about 50% more than landed W&H knives delivered to my door.
Go figure.
How much of a pain is it to get the individual blades mounted accurately on the shaper heads that allow you to mount individually cut blades? With all the different angles and shapes of the blades and knowing the procedure to accurately mount new jointer blades I thought this might be a problem. Those nice ones that I priced are pretty much slide on and go.
Thanks
I believe they have 2 styles, one is the 'hub and blade' and the other is like a honking bit router bit. I suspect you are looking at the 'hub and blade' units.

I believe to be the router bit style units, but it isn't obvious from the web page. Take a look at their flyer (P 11) or catalog.

thks. The local shop gave me one of their catalogs on the weekend. I have pretty much came to the conclusion they are expensive and I need to just get over it.
Shaper bits are expensive. Basically you've got 2 ways to go:
1. Dedicated cutters with carbide blades. Very expensive but the best long-term value if you really use them.
2. Cutter heads with interchangeable knives, ususally HSS. Much cheaper alternative, and the sensible way to go if it's for occasional use.
In my shop we have both - the few profiles that get used all the time are dedicated cutters. We have another dozen or so profiles that only get used from time to time and all fit in one head. If these knives wear they just get replaced.

check out grizzly for cheaper tooling, not bad quality on the inexpensive side...I like Nordic for good quality shaper tooling....
I assume both of these would ship to canada???
