David,
When I bought my lathe for turning spindles, I bought a copy attachment for it as it was dirt cheap at the time. The attachment uses a cutting tool that is basically just a point. Whilst the follower mechanism et al work well, the pointy cutter does not - it leaves a nasty rough finish.
I would like an article about lathe copy attachments - how to configure and use them best but also how to modify or even vary the tooling for better results.

One of the more vexing problems with turning is setting the workpiece in a 4-jaw (or equivalent) chuck so that it runs true. This doesn't matter as much with large spindle work as it does with small, precise projects. I think a short presentation on using a chuck would be of interest.
