sawing through a knot in Cherry

I need to cut a Cherry board, 8 quarter with a large knot in the center. What is the best way to do this?

In power tools, a band saw is the preferred way to make the cut since there is no chance of kick back if the stresses in the wood around the knot cause the kerf to close up.
