I have a few metal planes that I seldom if ever use .What is the most effective way to store them .Coat with Boeshield T9 , Starratt machine oil or carmeilia oil? My concern over the T9 is; how difficult is it to remove when the plane is needed?

No need to remove the T9, once you put it on and buff it out you are good to go. Good stuff.

Do you have any experience with starrett oil?
If you read the MSDS on Starrett oil, you will see it is just mineral oil. Save yourself some money and buy yourself a lifetime supply of it for a couple of dollars at your local drugstore. It's sold as a laxative (take it from me, it works!). You can also use the mineral oil in the kitchen, on your wooden cutting boards, wood steak knife handles, etc..That said, I also believe Boeshield is the best thing invented since canned beer. I use it on ALL my hand planes. In fact, I disassemble them and drench them in BS, and let them sit for 24 hours, then I wipe them down, reassemble and use. Each treatment last for about 6 months. I use BS on every precision finished metal surface on every tool in my shop.Jeff
Thanks Jeff
Like dgreen mentioned, just spray on the T-9 and buff it out. If you do want to apply it on your planes and leave it that's fine as well. The company suguests that this is the best method for sealing the metal until your ready to use again. When the time comes to bring out the plane again, to remove the gummy T-9 just spray more on and it will loosen it right up, then wipe it off.
Regards,
Jay
