Recently moved my tools from Montana to North Carolina. Major change in humidity so I used Simonize paste wax on all metal surfaces. Tools went into clean, dry storage in NC. I checked on them @ 10 days later and —– RUST!
So–did some research and decided to use TOP SAVER. Cleaned off all rust and applied TOP SAVER generously with spray bottle. I left the metal surfaces wet with TOP SAVER. When I returned @ 7 days later—RUST!
Now what do I do? Back to wax? What?

Ditto the Boeshield t-9 and then I add a coat of Johnsons paste wax or Butchers Bowling ally wax.

Another dito on the Boeshield. I bought a gallon 2yrs ago for $100. Sure that's a lot of money for rust preventer but I use it on everything - sparingly too. Last winter I soaked a new 11hp snow thrower with the stuff and after almost two winters in the north east no sign of rust (even with salt near the end of the driveway) at all!
You need to cover the tops after the wax application. I use Renaissance wax and HTC machine covers on all my machines. This works well in my humid NE Ohio shop. HTC covers are available at Amazon.com, try some. You can also try some bath towels. Do not use plastic or a piece of plywood as the covers need to breath.

I once read on an online forum that for long-term storage, especially cast iron tabletops, clean all the rust off the surface, wax it, then apply a layer of axle grease. You know, the thick stuff in the can. Then cover it with a layer of wax paper. The wax and grease layers should keep rust from taking up residence on your cast iron tops.
Also ditto on the Boeshield T-9. Mike in NC also.
If you're going to store the tools for several weeks, use LPS-4 (if you can find it). It was developed for outdoor storage of metal for the Military. It puts a waxy, cosmoline-like coating on the metal.
