Gentlemen and Ladies:
I know we are all wood workers here, as opposed to carpenters, but does anyone know how to keep the bottom of an exterior door frame from rotting?
I have heard that you can buy a frame with the bottom 18″ or so made from treated lumber. Is that so? Can I get it at a “big box” or is it special?
I’ll be spending my shop time this wekend replacing this frame instead of working on the quartersawn blanket chest I’m making for My Sweet Em… RATS!!!

Proper flashing, and by finishing all six sides of the frame before installation.
I started to respond to this this morning, but held off thinking someone would have used these jambs. I KNOW I've seen them -- just don't know where to get them. They do (or at least did) make jambs with the bottom foot or two made out of ACQ for just this purpose.
However, it's easy enough to just cut out only the damaged portion and replace it with an ACQ patch. Alternatively, you could make the jambs out of Azek.
You may have more luck with this Q over at Breaktime.

Try this.

Look for something called "FrameSaver"
Their claim, "it eliminates rot."
I saw some cellular vinyl PVC mouldings at Lowes that included exterior door jambs and brick mould among others.
