I’d like to try this finish mixture, but the article says 5 parts each of varnish and tung oil to 2 parts each of Japan drier and turpentine.
Then I watched the video and Roland stood there and said, “10 parts varnish and 10 parts tung oil” to 2 parts Japan drier and 2 parts turpentine.
Has anyone tried it? Which is the proper mixture? I guess I’d go with the 10 parts, since I actually see him say it, and the article could be an editing error.

Kent,
I guess that the only way we will know for sure is if we get a clarification from the horses mouth. That being said, even 2 parts of Japan drier mixed with 10 parts varnish and 10 parts tung oil is waaaay more than is usually used. Too much Japan drier will cause the finish to become brittle and to alligator. Japan drier is usually measured into a mixture a couple of drops at a time, not by the tablespoon or parts of a cup.

Yeah, I noticed the mixing instructions on the back of the Japan drier can. Until I get a clarification (I've posted on "Ask The Experts") I'm going to try the 10-10-2-2 mixture and see what it comes up with. That's straight from Roland's mouth on the video.

I for one would believe him.. Not something you use in a half year or two after...
OK, so I never tried it.. I'd guess it has something to do with flash off and drying time.. Why gripe about it if you never tried it!
