Ok, I am needing to veneer four pieces roughly 15″X 22″ (MDF is my substrate) I have a 6″ jointer, 15″ planer and my bandsaw has a 16″ resaw capacity, so do I glue up my three pieces of White Oak (3/4″X5 1/4″X 18″) resaw (1/8″), and then glue up? Or do I resaw each piece (then I could book match) then glue up?
Thanks – Scott

Edgejoint and facejoint your stock. Resaw the first leaf. If your saw gives you a gluable face, resaw the remaining leaves. If your saw doesn't give you a gluable face, facejoint the stock or at least use a handplane to knock off the worst ridges. Then resaw. Repeat.
Lay out the veneer leaves and check the edges. If they meet nicely, tape them together with non-holey veneer tape. If they don't meet nicely, or if the resawing operation has chipped them out, rejoint until they do. Then tape.
Then glue the veneer to the substrate.
1/8" is kinda thick for veneer. I aim for less than 3/32. You might also put veneer on the back side, to help the panel stay flat.

To add to Jamie's info, I'd emphasize the need to veneer both sides in all situations where there is any possibility at all that the panel could cup, which is about in every case.
Hey Jamie,
How come ya don't like holey veneer tape? It lets you see the joint line.
I use it but I always burnish/roll it down tight with a 1" wide wood roller. I haven't had any problems.

In my experience, it doesn't go down as cleanly, and it doesn't hold the veneer leafs together quite as strongly. With it, I've had gaps along the joint. But that's just me. YMMV.
I've been looking at commercial veneer tape dispensors. They are pretty expensive. I think I'll try and make one. Do you or anyone own a dispensor or have any links/pics to a homemade job?
Thanks,
Don
