removing rust and restoring life in bandsaw blade
Over the past year, I left and neglected a barely used TimberWolf bandsaw blades coiled up on a table in my shop and now it is covered with rust- mostly in a thin layer but the rust is crusty and raised in spots. How should I remove the rust and bring the blade back to life- if that’s possible? Also- in the future, how can I prevent my spare blades from rusting?
Thanks,
Lyptus

rust removal and prevention
There are numerous discussions about rust removal techniques here, using either commercial products or Simple Green, most of which could be adapted (carefully) to a bandsaw blade. You will probably need to resharpen the blade, as well, since the cutting face of the teeth will also have been affected. Future rust prevention might be a combination of rust-preventative paper wrappers, a light coat of oil, or the application of a thin coat of paraffin wax (applied while the blade is mounted, and rotated in reverse by hand).
