I know it isn’t really a finishing question. But, from what I’ve seen the restoration types are here more than anywhere else.
I have a shelf system, designed for Royal Systems, by Poul Codoviius, and manufactured around 1960. The cabinet components are made of teak veneered particle board. The bottom panel of one cabinet separated at the bottom corner joints, and I need to reglue it.
As the core material is particle board, there is no way to get all the old glue out of it. The joints are mitered, with dowels.
I have the bottom panel off, and have cleaned up the two sides of each edge a bit, (as much as a I am comfortable doing because I think if I take much off, it won’t be square), and have them smooth(er), and square.
Any recommendations on a glue to use, to put it back together?

Did the particle board deteriorate and crumble some?(possibly from a hard knock) Is this why the part failed? If so, you will have gaps to fill. Normally, any quality wood glue will do. I suggest a water based glue to help the particle board to swell a bit and fill some of the voids. You need to find a way to clamp very well and squeeze all together. You may have some filling and artistic touch ups to do when all is said and done. JL
